David Qian – Humans of TAMS

What’s your favorite TAMS memory so far?

My favorite memory in TAMS is definitely HOPE Auction because when I came to TAMS, I told myself that I wanted to perform at least once. Even though I wasn’t as good as other performers and I might’ve not have left as big of an impression, it was a really big moment for me because I showed what I had without comparing myself to other people.

What are you looking forward to next year?

I’m definitely looking forward to working with Julius and Teach And Learn. I think our whole board is really excited to come up with new ideas and new ways to help the juniors and to just improve the club as much as possible because we all really love what we do.

How do you like your TAL board?

When I initially saw the results for the TAL board, I was definitely shocked because I had no idea, going into it, who would be on the board. Even though I was shocked, I was really happy because I had previous experience interacting and working with everyone. My one concern was working with one of our board members because I hadn’t communicated with her much previously, but since we’ve been communicating regularly since the formation of our board, I think it’s going to go really well.

Have you ever had a life-changing experience?

I don’t think I’ve had one event. It’s the combination of all the experiences that I’ve had and reflecting on them personally on my own time that lets me really analyze different aspects of my life and what I want to do.

How do you deal with life struggles?

I rely on my friends a lot. I think that’s one of the good things about being here, especially because I live with my best friend. I always have someone to go to no matter what happens and I’ll always be there for him just the same. Even if he can’t always be there, there’s always a community of people around me that are willing to help me grow and get through whatever I’m struggling with.

Do you have an unpopular opinion?

I really don’t like cheese. When I was really little, I used to like it a lot and then, I don’t know what happened. I started hating it. After a while, I also became lactose intolerant so now, I just can’t eat it at all. All my friends forget – I don’t know why it’s so hard to remember.

Do you have any funny roommate stories?

My roommate has developed a habit of sleep talking so sometimes at night, just two days ago, he woke me up at 4 in the morning and he just started saying his name really loudly and quickly. He ended with “do you know? do you know?” Then, he just fell back down into his bed.

Any fun facts about yourself?

I’m really extra. I’m really sassy. I’ve changed a lot since I’ve come to TAMS.
