This Day in History – November 19th, 2015

Ania Drewniak’s newest TDIH!

Now a popular favorite with kids of all ages, Kellogg’s Pop-Tarts are a kid favorite because of the variety of dessert flavors and the relative ease of operation of toasters, even for children of the age of 10. However, when Pop-Tarts were first created on November 19th, 1965, they were actually fairly healthy. These originally came in five fairly healthy options (apple currant, strawberry, blueberry, brown sugar cinnamon, and unfrosted) because the frosting caused a fire hazard in the toasters of those days. That’s not to say they aren’t anymore; if you leave a strawberry Pop-Tart in the toaster too long, it’ll burst into foot tall flames.
